How to Enable Multitouch on Samsung Spica

August 30, 2010 by Lorensius Londa 18 Comments

Samsung Spica users may have been happy since genius Gabriel-LG from samdroid.net made a patch to Spica’s kernel to enable multitouch support a week ago. The patch now is available in latest samdroid kitchen v2 (LK2.09.4) along with a patch for dark camera bug from antibyte. I’ve tested the latest samdroid kitchen with multitouch+camera fix patch, it works perfectly on Google Map, Gallery 3D and Browser. The camera dark problem also fixed.

There are several ways to install multitouch patch, but in this guide i’ll use patch that comes with latest samdroid kitchen v2 (kernel LK2.09.4).  LK2.09.4 includes patches for multitouch from Gabriel-LG (v2b), camera bug fix from antibyte and new superuser 2.3.5.

How to install

Note: Use this guide at your own risk and always make a backup before applying new updates.

Without base package

Use this if you want to install kernel patch  without samdroid v2 package. You must at least have kernel LK2.02 installed to install the patch via recovery.

  • Go to samdroid kitchen v2 page
  • On ‘Base Packages‘ options, choose ‘Light Package‘
  • On ‘Kernel’ options, choose ‘Kernel [LK2.09.4 (Multitouch from Gabriel-LG v2b + antibyte camera bugfix2 + Superuser 2.3.5)]‘
  • Scroll down the page (skip the other options) and click ‘Cook‘ button to download the zip file (SamdroidMod-(###)_update.zip). The samdroid update zip file size is about 3.8 mb .
  • Download multitouch fix zip file from here (Sdm_MultitouchFix.zip)
  • Copy the two update zip files into sdcard
  • Reboot into recovery
  • Select  ‘Apply any zip from SD‘
  • Select samdroid update zip file
  • Do the same for multitouch fix zip file
  • Reboot and check the multitouch support, you can download Multitouch Vis Test application from Market to test multitouch support.

With base package (Recommend, stable)

Use this if you want to install kernel patch with samdroid v2 package. You must at least have kernel LK2.02 installed to install the patch via recovery.

  • Go to samdroid kitchen v2 page
  • On ‘Base Packages‘ options, choose ‘SamdroidMod Version 1.3.1.deodexed [XXJH1] (Android 2.1)‘ and ‘Light Package‘
  • On ‘Kernel’ options, choose ‘Kernel [LK2.09.4 (Multitouch from Gabriel-LG v2b + antibyte camera bugfix2 + Superuser 2.3.5)]‘
  • Choose your prefered packages on the other options. For ‘Home‘ options, LauncherPro is really recommended (smooth & fast launcher)
  • Click ‘Cook‘ button to download the zip file (SamdroidMod-(###)_update.zip). The file size is about 80-100 mb depends on your selected packages
  • Download multitouch fix zip file from here (Sdm_MultitouchFix.zip)
  • Copy the two update zip files into sdcard
  • Reboot into recovery
  • Select Wipe → Wipe data/cache
  • Select  ‘Apply any zip from SD‘
  • Select samdroid update zip file
  • Do the same for multitouch fix zip file
  • Reboot
  • First booting may take a long time, especially between logo and boot animation, just wait.
  • Check the multitouch support, you can download Multitouch Vis Test application from Market to test multitouch support.

Hi, I’ve installed the kitchen, but was not able to install the fix.
What happens now is that the phone is booting in a loop, and can’t get it run on recovery or download mode again.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Hi again Lorenz,

Want to try out Multitouch on my Spica following your steps. But the {{‘Kernel [LK2.09.4 (Multitouch from Gabriel-LG v2b + antibyte camera bugfix2 + Superuser 2.3.5)]}} you mentioned is no longer available in SamdroidMod kitchine.

Which Kernel option can I use to enjoy the Multitouch?

Appreciate your usual response. Love you.

    Hi Lorenz,

I think I’m in trouble. My phone endlessly rebooting. I had already upgraded to 2.1 and rooted to Lk2.08 Samdroid.

I selected the following options for my package to enable Multitouch.

    1. SamdroidMod Version 1.3.1.deodexed [XXJH1] (Android 2.1) [58 MB]
    2. Kernel [LK2.10.rc1.hvl5 (inc vol + 5% bat)]
    3. LauncherPro [0.8.3]
    4.XDA Phone.apk [v.29]
    5. All of the options on ‘Standard’
    6. Two options on ‘Keyboards (IME)
    7. All ‘Google services’
    8. Almost all ‘Extended SamdroidMod Components’
    9. Super Circle Battery [AB] on ‘Themes’
    10. Win7-Nexus Bootanimation on ‘Boot animations’
    11. DVM ARM11 optimized on ‘Experimental components’

I also downloaded ‘Sdm_MultitouchFix.zip’ from your link which is only 5KB size.

Where is my mistake? PLS HELP!

      Hello Proton,

Before apply to mod, wipe the /data/cache first from recovery menu
